Step by Step
This tour lasts approximately 12 hours and allows you to discover one of Canada's most fascinating parks. The starting point is in the centre of Toronto, where a minivan and a local guide will be waiting for you. Once you arrive, you will be able to admire the wild nature and practice outdoor sports (canoeing or snowshoeing, depending on the season).
The Algonquin covers an area of over 7400 square kilometres and is dotted with some 2400 lakes. This vast territory is home to beavers, moose, wolves, grizzly bears and hundreds of other species, which you can spot with a little luck. As usual, the route touches on the following places:
- Ragged Falls - One of the 10 most beautiful waterfalls in Ontario. You will walk along a trail along the Oxtongue River.
- Lookout Trail and Visitor Centre - A short and strenuous trail that leads to an extraordinary viewpoint. You have the opportunity to decide if you want to do two short hikes or one long hike.
- Beaver Pond Trail - A 2km loop trail around two beaver ponds. These animals transform lakes and rivers and are critical to the ecosystem.
Algonquin Park is a popular hiking destination. Some travellers choose autumn to admire the changing colours of the forests. Others come in spring, when it's easier to spot the imposing American moose. It's worth a visit in any season. If you decide to visit in summer, I recommend you bring sunscreen and mosquito repellent.
The visit does not include lunch, but you can bring your own food and eat it in the designated areas. In any case, I recommend that you pack trekking shoes, some snacks , a mackintosh and extra clothes in your backpack.
