Step by Step

Discover the landscapes that inspired many of Van Gogh's works with this full-day excursion to Provence from the centre of Aix-en-Provence in small groups . Climb aboard an air-conditioned minibus and with a local guide visit the towns of Arles, Saint Rémy and Les Baux .

On top of all this, you'll have a shuttle service to and from the centre of Aix-en-Provence. From the comfort of your seat and with your small group of about 8 people, you will travel through the picturesque Provençal countryside to the beautiful French Provence.

Upon arrival in the pretty village of Saint Rémy de Provence, located in the district of Arles, you'll enjoy some free time to explore the picturesque town on your own. Enjoy a visit to its local market (on Wednesdays) and explore its goods and excellent local produce. Also admire Roman monuments such as Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, the psychiatric hospital where Van Gogh was interned and painted several of his works between 1889 and 1890.

You will continue your tour until you reach the medieval town of Les Baux. Discover this exceptional Provençal village and marvel at its panoramic views over the Provençal countryside. Stroll through its pretty cobbled streets or, if you prefer, explore the majestic ruins of a castle perched high up in the Alpilles. You can also enjoy the possibility to attend the sound and light show of Les Carrières de Lumières (entrance is not included in the price of the tour).

You will continue your tour in Arles, where Van Gogh lived and painted his most famous paintings. This ancient city, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also remarkable for its beautifully preserved Roman architecture and monuments. Like Saint Rémy and Les Baux, it was also the home of Vincent Van Gogh for a time.

Here you will learn more about Van Gogh's life and his favourite places that inspired his works, such as the yellow café in his painting, and see other Roman monuments, such as his Roman amphitheatre. If you visit the city of Arles on a Saturday, you can enjoy its Provençal market.
