Step by Step

The Boboli Gardens are located behind the Palazzo Pitti, a former Florentine banker's residence that was bought by the Medici family in the mid-16th century. During this guided tour, you can visit, in groups of no more than 15 people, some of the most iconic spots in the city's largest gardens. These include the so-called Artichoke Fountain, a huge octagonal basin built on a bronze lily base, and the Amphitheatre, which was part of an ancient hippodrome built on the hill behind the Palazzo.

At the top of the hill sits the fountain of Neptune, the God of the Sea, holding his trident, and the huge statue of a woman, dedicated to Abundantia, goddess of prosperity, sculpted by Giambologna.

You will cross a series of terraces known as Viottolone, which in Italian means "great avenue", and reach the oasis of Isolotto, an oval-shaped island where you can enjoy the beautiful cypress trees and another of Giambologna's great sculptures, the Fountain of the Ocean .

In the Giardino de Cavaliere, a walled garden built by Michelangelo, you can enjoy the hedges full of roses and dahlias, while in the Kaffeehaus, a recently restored former coffee house, you can enter and admire the frescoes displayed on its walls.

Behind the columns that guard the entrance to the Grotta di Buontalenti, you can contemplate the incredible mixture of sculptures, paintings and architectural elements that fill up to three different rooms, and discover all the secrets they hold thanks to the explanations of the guide who will accompany you. At the end of the tour, you can stay in the gardens as long as you wish and return to visit the places that have attracted your attention.
