The city was buried under the ashes of the volcano, which has allowed it to be preserved over the centuries. The ruins of Pompeii were discovered in the 18th century and are now one of the best-preserved archaeological heritages on the planet .

Some of the most important archaeological remains of the city are as follows:

  • Forum of Pompeii: This was the civic centre and the heart of Pompeii's commercial life. It was accessed through a large bronze gate and no carriages were allowed inside.
  • Temple of Jupiter: The temple was built in the 2nd century BC in honour of the Roman god Jupiter, equivalent to the Greek god Zeus. It was badly damaged by the earthquake of 62 AD and was being restored at the time of the eruption of Vesuvius.
  • Lupanar: brothel in the city, known for the erotic paintings on its walls. Lupanar was the Latin word for this type of building. It comes from Lupa, which in Latin means she-wolf, the name by which prostitutes were known in Ancient Rome.
  • Temple of Apollo: In an area bounded by 48 columns stood this temple, which worshipped the Greek deity Apollo, whose cult had been widespread in the region for centuries. Among other things, Apollo was known as the god of the sun.

A visit to a city that has remained intact since the 1st century, which will allow you to stroll through its streets and enjoy the secrets and curiosities it holds.

For lovers of ancient history this is great. The tour was what I enjoyed the most. I don't remember everything the guide told me but it was all about the customs of the people and then the natural disaster they suffered. Impressive how everything has been preserved.
