Step by Step
On this small group tour to Machu Picchu from Cuzco you will visit the sacred epicentre of the Inca Empire, the magnificent granite citadel that is the living trace of Peru's ancient culture.
The tour will start in Cuzco, where a driver will pick you up at your accommodation and take you to the station for the train journey from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes.
During the journey, you will enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Peruvian Andes. Upon arrival, you will board a bus to Machu Picchu.
After being greeted by the beautiful llamas, the expedition will begin. You will be accompanied by a professional guide, an expert in history, who will tell you about the incredible legends behind this metropolis built in the middle of the 15th century, which would have been the capital of the Inca civilisation and was rediscovered in 1911.
Among the must-see sights you can visit in Machu Picchu, the following stand out:
- Temple of the Sun: its circular walls are unique in the sacred city. This monument would have served as a religious temple or as an astronomical observatory, according to research.
- Main Temple: the remains suggest that this area was where the inhabitants of Machu Picchu performed their religious cults, rituals and ceremonies of the Inca culture.
- Sacred Stone: this enormous rock, 3 metres high, was carved in such a way that its peaks were aligned with the mountains in front of it. For the Incas it represented a sacred point.
- Intihuatana: the name in Quechua means "place where the sun is tied". It is a stone that would have served as a sundial or as a place for sacrifices during rituals.
- Huayna Picchu: together with Huchuy Picchu, it is one of the two hills surrounding Machu Picchu. To access the mountain and explore it, you must book your ticket months in advance.
Throughout the adventure, you will discover why this imposing place full of enigmas and mysticism is one of the seven wonders of the modern world , declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.
