Step by Step
Get ready for a deeply moving trip to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, one of the darkest places of World War II.
To make your experience easier, a driver will pick you up from your hotel or flat in Krakow (if you select that option) and, in about an hour and a half, take you to Auschwitz. Otherwise, you can simply go to one of the meeting points located in different parts of the city.
Once in Auschwitz, a specialised guide will be waiting for you, whose accompaniment is essential to understand the historical context and the events that marked this concentration camp.
During the first part of the tour, you will walk through Auschwitz I while discovering the gate with the inscription "Arbeit macht frei" and the last surviving gas chamber. You will also see numerous exhibits with photographs and personal remains of those who were imprisoned.
Then, after a short break, you will move on to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, the largest concentration camp built by the Nazis, where your guide will show you such awe-inspiring sights as the remains of thecrematoria and the dreaded "Death Gate" through which the prisoner trains arrived.
