Recommended if... you want to admire the great creations of this Catalan legend and don't want to worry about queuing or running out of tickets.
Prices and types of combined tickets for the Sagrada Família and Park Güell
Both the Park Güell and the Sagrada Familia have the option through the Hellotickets website to buy tickets for approximately 16€ and 34€ respectively. However, there are no combined tickets offered directly by either institution.
Fortunately, many websites and tour companies offer this type of combined tickets, with prices around €75, to enjoy two of the greatest works of the artist Gaudí with all kinds of advantages. All you have to do is buy them online a few days in advance and show them at the entrance to both places.
The truth is that the price of both Park Güell and the Sagrada Familia can be a bit steep if you buy them separately. Barcelona has a lot of museums and places to see and it is always a good option to consider buying some kind of pack like these combined tickets in order to save a few euros.
What are the advantages of a combined ticket to La Sagrada Familia and Park Güell?
Combined tickets to La Sagrada Familia and Park Güell are a good option that I recommend you consider as you can save money and time as well as get the most out of the experience at both attractions.
General admission to La Sagrada Familia starts at around 34€ and general admission to Park Güell is around 16€. So at first you might think that buying separate tickets might be better, but if you take a look at what these basic tickets offer, you'll immediately notice the difference.
The general admission tickets to the Sagrada Familia do not include, for example, the climb to the towers from where you have spectacular views and the general pass to Park Güell has no guide to guide you on what you see.
To get these extra services, the entrance fee to the Sagrada Familia is almost €40 and the Park Güell ticket is €25. For the approximate €65 that it would cost to buy both tickets separately, you can buy one of the combined ticket options and, in addition, get not only an audio guide in Spanish to show you both places, but also transfers between the two monuments. It's definitely worth it.
How best to organise a visit to the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell with a combined entrance ticket
If you have opted for the simpler combined ticket offer, you will be able to see these two monuments in a much more flexible and personal way, without having to wait in endless queues. The best way to organise it is by booking this type of ticket in advance and knowing beforehand the dates you want to visit. You don't have to do both on the same day. You can do one first and the next day the other or both on the same day, but you must know in advance and book the dates in advance due to capacity issues.
If you have little time in the city, I recommend that you book both dates for the same day. Either way, ideally you should go to the Sagrada Família in the morning, preferably first thing in the morning (it opens at 9am) because, although you won't have to wait in line for this entrance ticket, it will be much more pleasant to see the inside of the church without the crowds. With Park Güell, however, my advice is to go at sunset around 18:30, as from its famous caldera you will have privileged views and, if you come in summer, the temperatures in the park will be more pleasant.
This way, you will be able to organise your trip to Barcelona much better and save some money without having to give up getting to know in depth these two works of art by Gaudí. You're free to choose the dates and times that suit you best, and you'll also have access to all the facilities and an audio guide at each site.
How long does it take to do the guided tour with the combined ticket?
If you have come to visit Barcelona in 1 day and you have just enough time, this type of ticket could be the solution for you as they not only offer you access to the basilica and Park Güell but also organise the whole visit and transfers so you can do both visits during the day in approximately 4 to 6 hours.
If you were thinking of doing the visits on your own, it would be advisable to check the Sagrada Família timetable and the Park Güell timetable in order to be able to plan your timetable and control the time between the two places. However, one of the advantages of this type of combined ticket is that the tour itself, which includes access, organises the day for you.
The most common type of combined tour lasts 4 hours and takes place in the morning, as the afternoon timetable can vary depending on the season. So, whether you choose a tour that goes first to Sagrada Familia and then to Park Güell or vice versa, you 'll finish seeing everything by lunchtime and still have the afternoon to get to know this beautiful city a little better.
Where to eat near the Sagrada Familia and near Park Güell
Once you've finished your visit to Park Güell and La Sagrada Familia, you'll have worked up an appetite and you'll be in the vicinity of one of the two tourist attractions. I recommend you take the opportunity to go into one of the restaurants in the area to recharge your batteries and try some typical Catalan and Mediterranean dishes.
- Paella and tradition near the Sagrada Familia
The Sagrada Familia is in one of the most gentrified and traditional areas of Barcelona, so it won't be difficult to find some of the best restaurants in the city. Being such a touristy place, there will be no shortage of stalls and restaurants offering set menus, sangria and paella. But, so that you don't get ripped off on prices and quality, I'd like to recommend two restaurants whose quality and price will leave you very satisfied.
On the one hand, Madre Restaurant, just a few steps from the Sagrada Familia, offers you a top-quality tapas and raciones experience, with simple but well-prepared products for a gourmet tapas lunch. On the other hand, if you're in the mood for a good paella, I suggest you go to Arrocería Gaudí, a place that specialises in rice dishes that will make you lick your fingers.
- Rustic food with views of Park Güell
The surroundings of Park Güell are in a beautiful residential area in Barcelona and also offer a great gastronomic offer more intimate and rustic. If you finish your visit of the combined tickets in this beautiful and special park, I would like to leave you with two restaurant options for you to consider.
Tibet Restaurant offers a good menu of seasonal products prepared in a simple and tasty way and respecting the most primary flavours. La Salut Restaurant also has a varied menu of dishes typical of Mediterranean cuisine with meat, fish, rice and seasonal vegetables, a delight!
How to get from one place to another
If you go sightseeing on your own, it's a long way to walk. The best option in this case is to take the bus, combining the V21 and V19 lines, or the metro, getting off at Sagrada Familia or Lesseps to go to Park Güell.
However, you can avoid all this hassle of metros, buses and combinations if you book one of the tours with a combined ticket to both monuments, as the transfers are included in the price.
This way, not only do you avoid the cost of public transport, but you'll also travel comfortably and in air-conditioned comfort. Something that, I assure you, in summer in Barcelona you'll be grateful for.
What to see in the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell
Gaudí is one of Barcelona's emblems and two of his greatest representations are precisely the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell. These two must-sees are visited by millions of people every year.
Before you start your visit to both places with your combined ticket, let me tell you a bit more about what you are going to see on your visit and what is the importance of these two places in the modernist city.
Sagrada Familia
The interior of the Sagrada Familia is worth seeing. It is a modernist style basilica, one of the few of this artistic period, which Gaudí designed and began to build at the beginning of the 19th century. It is still being built today, which is why it is normal for it to be full of cranes when you see it. The artist left all the plans ready so he knew how to finish his masterpiece.
The exterior alone is worth a visit. Its strong influence of nature intermingles with Christian symbols, so that it appears to have a leafy, organic façade with a total of 12 towers that give it impressive dimensions.
Although it is not finished, you can enter inside and see the chapel, which is almost like entering the author's mind. The way he plays with shapes and heights is unique.
Park Güell
Park Güell was commissioned by Eusebi Güell and is one of Gaudí's most important projects. The artist wanted to create a fusion between the nature of the park and its characteristic forms and sculptures. Thus, the famous mosaic salamander, the large terrace with views over the whole city, the forest of columns and the passageways made of sculpted columns have remained as landmarks of Barcelona.
Visiting Park Güell is an experience for the senses, as you will feel like you are inside a fantasy set, where colour and shapes play with you.
Other tips for visiting the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell
The best advice I can give you if you are planning your trip to Barcelona and you want your visit to Sagrada Familia and Park Güell to be enjoyable and unforgettable is to book your combined tickets well in advance and avoid coming during the high season.
Barcelona is a city full of tourist attractions, good weather and gastronomy. It is logical that everyone wants to come and visit it but, precisely because of this, during the busiest months of the summer, all of Barcelona's points of interest end up overcrowded.
If you want to avoid finding the basilica and park packed with tourists from all over the world and temperatures above 35ºC, I recommend you come to Barcelona in June or September; the weather will be pleasant but you'll find the city less crowded.
