January is a busy time for tourists in the Capital of Sin, something that can make life difficult if you haven't decided beforehand what to see and do in Las Vegas.

So you can buy tickets or book dates and times in advance, in this post I explain what are the most important events and attractions that take place in January in Las Vegas.

1. Take a hike to the snow-capped canyons of the Grand Canyon

Visiting the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas by helicopter or sightseeing tour is one of the great things to do in Las Vegas in the winter, especially in January, when conditions are great for seeing this beautiful National Park with a snow cover worthy of a museum painting.

In fact, many people choose to visit Las Vegas specifically in the month of January to venture to the Grand Canyon and enjoy magnificent views of this natural wonder under a blanket of snow.

Hiring a light aircraft flight to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas will allow you to appreciate the best views from the heights and will undoubtedly be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life.

Useful information

  • Price: 210 euros per person.
  • Duration: 4 hours.

The Vegas Golden Knights are this Nevada city's hockey team and January is a very interesting month to enjoy this sport, as it coincides with the mid-season of the North American hockey league, the NHL, in which American and Canadian teams compete to take home the trophy.

Going to a bar with a typical atmosphere, ordering a beer and enjoying an ice hockey game is one of the things to see and do during the evenings in Las Vegas.

But I really recommend that, if you are interested in this sport, don't miss the opportunity to book tickets to see the Vegas Golden Knights at their home stadium, the T-Mobile Arena. Without a doubt one of the best things to do in January in this city.

Useful information

  • Schedule: games usually start at 7pm.
  • Price: from €74, depending on the game, the seats you choose and how far in advance you book your tickets.

The Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens stands out in January as an ideal time to visit because of the variety of exhibits on display.

This activity is free and can be enjoyed at any time of the day by simply entering the Bellagio Hotel premises, but I recommend you do it at night to take advantage of your visit to see the spectacle of the hotel's fountains, which are illuminated after sunset.

You are also very close to the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas, which is an excellent opportunity to climb up to its observation deck for one of the best views in all of Sin City.

Useful Info

  • Hours: The Eiffel Tower Las Vegas observation deck is open from 12:00 to 00:00.
  • Price: Entrance to the Las Vegas Eiffel Tower costs 28 euros.

Buffets abound on every corner of the Strip and many offer themed dinners dedicated to New Year's celebrations. In addition, many large hotels, such as the MGM Grand, offer shows and exhibitions for the holiday.

Likewise, if Chinese New Year falls in January, you should not miss the opportunity to sample the delicious cuisine and specialties. The meals in celebration of this date are especially abundant.

Another fantastic plan is to take a gastronomic tour in Las Vegas where you will taste typical dishes of Las Vegas cuisine. Delicious!

Useful information

  • Time: starts at 12:00 and lasts three hours.
  • Price: 112 euros.

If you love technology and are a regular consumer of the latest innovations, then you need to include the Consumer Electronic Show on your list of 10 things to do in Las Vegas in January.

Meta, Google and Tesla are some of the big names that are usually present every year at this magnificent event organised by the Consumer Electronics Associations of the United States.

Here's my idea: take a tour on one of the best tour buses in Las Vegas and get off at the stop closest to CES. Once you're there, wander around the halls and attend the conferences that interest you most - you can even buy some of the latest gadgets!

Useful info

  • Hours: Varies depending on the conference.
  • Price: from around $100 to $300, depending on how far in advance you book.

National Buffet Day in the United States falls on January 2nd and if you're lucky enough to be in Las Vegas on this date, you'll want to make the most of the wide range of buffet food on offer at restaurants across the city.

Dinner**, breakfast, lunch or snacks**. No matter what time of day it is, you'll always find a buffet with enough variety to take you around the world, gastronomically speaking. In fact, if you plan your schedule well, you can arrange for a private transfer from Las Vegas airport to arrive directly at a buffet.

And if you're not in Las Vegas on 2 January but you're interested in food, remember that a food tour in Las Vegas is a more than delicious option.

The Irish band U2 has a permanent home in Las Vegas, the MSG Sphere, and although they perform concerts almost all year round, January is a spectacular time to attend a concert.

Inside the "sphere" you'll forget the cold of Las Vegas and the lights that envelop this space will take you to a new dimension. You'll be able to sing along to U2 songs, feel the warmth of the audience and vibrate to the rhythm of the music of one of the soundtracks of your life.

Useful info

  • Price: there are many prices, depending on how far in advance and where in the venue you want to enjoy it.
  • Times: Concerts start at 20:00.

Travelling to Las Vegas in January is synonymous with celebrating the New Year. Whether at your hotel or at any of those located on the iconic Strip, you will find events that revolve around the joy that defines the first week of the year.

Contests, special poker tournaments, themed dinners or discounts are some of the alternatives that may be appearing in the facilities of these hotel complexes. And it's up to you to walk around and find the one that suits you best, as events change every year.

Las Vegas' most famous casinos, such as the MGM Grand or the Bellagio, usually organise fabulous attractions for tourists to see the New Year of their lives.

Useful information

  • Price: varies depending on the hotel or casino.
  • Hours: The city's casinos are usually open 24 hours a day.

9. Ice skiing at the Cosmopolitan rink

Until mid-January, you still have the chance to skate on the ice rink that is set up at the Cosmopolitan Hotel & Casino each year for the winter season and the holiday season.

It's a deck that offers a full view of iconic Strip landmarks such as the Paris Hotel globe and the entrance to the Bellagio Hotel.

It's a plan you can include on your list of places to see on a one-week visit to Las Vegas, as long as you're in town during the first half of January. Children over the age of 2 can enter the grounds, so it's also one of the things to see and do in Las Vegas if you're travelling with kids.

You can rent skates there and even try some of their themed cocktails to continue enjoying the Christmas spirit even in the month of January.

Useful information

  • Price: from 50 dollars for two people for one hour of skating.
  • Hours: during the evening, from dusk until about 10 pm.

10. Surprise yourself with the AVN Expo of adult entertainment

Las Vegas is synonymous with adult entertainment, in all its versions and dimensions. So it's only fitting that the adult film industry's annual expo is held every January in Sin City.

It's a 4-day event and the Virgin Hotel is the venue for the hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of visitors.

If you're interested in discovering a more intimate look at the performers and production houses involved in this sector of the seventh art, this event may be for you.

Useful information

  • Hours: Activities usually start before noon until after 9pm.
