New Orleans The National WWII Museum

With a ticket, you'll have the opportunity to visit the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, which pays tribute to the American soldiers who took part in the conflict. It opened on 6 June 2000, the anniversary of the Normandy landings, and includes everything a history buff could want. The activity is free of charge.

You can enter this must-see museum and listen to the introductory video "Beyond all boundaries", produced by and starring Tom Hanks. Undoubtedly one of the most scenic rooms is the large atrium where dozens of aircraft are suspended in the air on wires.

There are also Spitfire and Sherman tanks, a perfectly preserved B29 bomber, tracked vehicles, the four-engine "Flying Fortress" and routes showing the industrial and logistical effort to supply the army.

However, this cultural institution is famous for its "Campaigns of Courage" section which recreates two war scenarios: the Pacific - with a spectacular reconstruction of the jungle of Guadalcanal - and the campaigns in the Mediterranean and on the European continent.

Overall, it is designed as an immersive journey combining video, interactive exhibits, special effects and a rich archive of testimonies from those who participated in the conflict. New Orleans was awarded the construction of the museum because the amphibious ships used during World War II were designed and built here at the Higgins Industries shipyard.

If you wish, you can refuel after your visit at the museum's bars/restaurants: The American Sector or the Soda Shop, which recreates an American diner from the 1950s (please note that food is not included).
