Step by Step
Salt River rafting is an adventurous and original activity, especially recommended for those who enjoy wilderness experiences. It runs through the Sonoran Desert and is easily accessible from Phoenix, making it popular with tourists and locals alike. The total cost includes water bottles, snacks, life jackets and a knowledgeable guide.
The Salt River flows just a few kilometres from Phoenix and the Lower Salt River is a popular destination for recreation, bird watching and water sports. This stretch is suitable for rafting, especially for first-time rafters, as the current is not too strong. Thanks to Arizona's warm climate, rafting can be done at any time of the year.
The Salt flows in a pristine environment, home to hundreds of species. One of them is the river otter, recognisable by its long whiskers, which it uses to locate its prey: amphibians, crayfish and bird eggs. With a bit of luck, you may also see bald eagles, foxes, ospreys and raccoons.
