Step by Step

Discover the past, present and future of the capital of the Netherlands with a ticket to the Amsterdam Historical Museum. Explore the inside of this museum and enjoy an exhibition on the history of Amsterdam from the 16th century to the present day. Discover how this small medieval settlement evolved into the thriving modern city it is today on an audio tour lasting about an hour and a half.

This historic building, housed in a former cloister and serving as an orphanage, was rebuilt by famous Golden Age architects in the 18th century. It became a beautiful historical monument, the perfect setting for the Amsterdam Historical Museum, history and culture of Amsterdam.

Pending the renovation of the Amsterdam Museum's main building, your ticket gives you access to the museum's temporary home on the Amstel. The Panorama Amsterdam exhibition, spread over three floors and more than twenty rooms, offers a space to get to know the city in depth through stories travelling through the past, present and future.

You will discover everything from the oldest map of the city dating from 1538, a medieval statue of Mary and Jesus from 1566, to contemporary paintings by Natasja Kensmil. You will also find drawings and plans, models on the evolution of house construction in the 20th century, or an interesting exhibition on the decline in infant mortality over the years.

Immerse yourself in the chronological history of Amsterdam, from its origins to the present day, and discover more than 70,000 pieces of paintings, photographs, archaeological finds, engravings, sculptures and much more.
