If you want to save money and time during your trip to Lisbon, you will have the opportunity thanks to the Lisbon Card. You can choose between a 24, 48 or 72 hour pass to visit up to 38 museums or monuments. With this pass, which you can carry on your mobile phone, you will have the opportunity to travel free of charge on trains, buses, metro, trams and lifts.
Free transport also includes train travel to the tourist towns of Sintra, famous for its castle, and Cascais, a perfect place to unwind on the beach.
To make use of this pass, valid for one year, you don't need to choose the attractions when you buy it. But it is advisable to take a look beforehand in case you need to book an activity in advance.
With the Lisbon Card, you can create your own itinerary using the guidebook included with your ticket. Among the attractions on offer are, for example:
- Belém Tower: a 16th century fortification in Lisbon that served as an embarkation and disembarkation point for Portuguese explorers and as a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon.
- Mosteiro dos Jerónimos: is a former monastery of the Order of St. Jerome, located near the Tagus River in the parish of Belém. It became the necropolis of the Portuguese royal dynasty of Aviz in the 16th century, but was secularised in the 19th century by state decree, and is now one of the most visited monuments in Portugal.
- National Pantheon: located in São Vicente. This monumental building, built on the site of a primitive church, was inaugurated in 1966, 284 years after its construction began. Numerous personalities from the country's history are buried here.
- Museo Nacional del Azulejo (National Tile Museum): this space exhibits tiles dating from all eras, forming an exhibition that traces the history of the city through its most famous artistic manifestation.
It should also be noted that it is not only museums and monuments that you will be able to visit. You will have free access to the famous Santa Justa elevator, as well as being able to take the famous tram 28 route.
