Step by Step
This bus tour allows you to explore one of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the United States: Acadia National Park. It covers much of Mount Desert Island and some smaller islands, and is popular with hikers and canoeists in particular. Choosing this tour is effortless, as you'll travel in the comfort of an air-conditioned bus.
The itinerary lasts approximately 2.5 hours and departs from Bar Harbor, a resort town on the coast of Maine. Some of the places you will visit are:
- Cadillac Mountain - The highest peak in Acadia National Park, reaching 1,500 metres. It has been a tourist destination since the 19th century and remains popular because the summit can be reached by road and the views are simply breathtaking.
- Sieur de Monts Spring - A spring within the park linked to the figure of Pierre Du Gua de Monts, governor of New France who lived in the 17th century. Impressed by the beauty of the place, he decided to build a small house near the spring.
- Thunder Hole - A small inlet, battered by the waves of the Atlantic. When the current is strongest, the water rises to more than 6 metres. In addition to the beautiful view of the sea, the place is surrounded by wild roses which give off a characteristic smell.
As it is a bus route, you won't have to walk too far, but it is still advisable to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. It is also a good idea to pack a snack, a bottle of water and sunglasses in your backpack.
