More about: Page Tours

Page is a hidden gem in the United States, located between Utah and Arizona. It's noted for its warm climate, surrounded by striking rock formations. There are plenty of attractions to take advantage of, such as an overnight stay near Lake Powell, a Native American show and local food. You can also take an ATV or jeep tour of the trails.

For the best things to do in Page, I recommend starting with Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend. Also, don't miss the opportunity to take at least a day trip to Las Vegas. The city also offers photo tours and extreme activities such as rafting, canyoning and hiking.

1. Enjoy a tour of the Antelope Canyon in Page

Antelope Canyon is a dream destination, highly sought after in Page. Its beauty is unparalleled, with perfect lines of erosion. People are attracted by its shapes, colours and beams of light, but be aware that this geological wonder can only be visited with a Navajo guide. Also, it is essential to respect the rules and not enter with prohibited objects such as backpacks and photography equipment.

The canyon is divided into two parts, the upper section is the most accessible with wide, low-intensity trails. This is where the beams of light can be seen between 11:00 and 14:00. Unfortunately it is only open from March to October, for safety reasons. The lower section, on the other hand, is for experienced adventurers, as the paths are narrow and the steps are very steep. It tends to be less crowded, allowing you to appreciate the changing colours. To visit Antelope Canyon I recommend you wear comfortable trainers, as you will be walking for quite a while.

Details of interest

  • Price: from 57 euros per person.
  • Duration: approximately one and a half hours.
  • Means of transport: public transport in Page is a bit poor, especially to get to the booths where the tour is booked. For convenience I recommend taking a taxi for around 12 euros, hiring private transfers or booking a tour that covers the service.
  • Advantages of this option: you can explore both sections, or book separate tours. It all depends on your physical ability and itinerary.
  • Disadvantages of this option: Not recommended for pregnant women or people with severe health problems.

2. Fly over Horseshoe Curve and Tower Butte by helicopter.

In Arizona you can discover the Horseshoe Curve, a mountain wonderland. It's a must-see and one of the best things to do in Page. The best way to get a glimpse of this meander is on board a helicopter, as it has a depth of 300 metres. However, you can also hike or sail across the dam while kayaking or rafting.

If you choose to fly over it in a helicopter, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the horseshoe. You may even fly over Antelope Canyon and Lake Powell, as they are on the same route. These types of hikes usually end at Tower Butte, a summit famous for its scenic views from the top. In fact, from here you can see the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Useful details

  • Price: from 262 euros per person.
  • Duration: about 40 minutes.
  • Means of transport: the best way to get around is by taxi, your service provider will let you know if the transfer is included, or in any case will arrange a meeting point. In the booking details you can find all the information you need to organise your trip.
  • Advantages of this option: it is a private activity, as it is generally intended for small groups of at least 6 people. In addition, you will learn about the history of the Navajo people.
  • Disadvantages of this option: it is not suitable for wheelchair users.

The Native American show is a must-see cultural activity in Page. Usually held at the Red Heritage Theatre, it features authentic dances, demonstrations of Navajo culture, singing, local stories and drumming shows. It's definitely one of the best entertainment options if you want to explore the historical background of Page.

It's an unforgettable experience, where the eye-catching costumes and Navajo rituals will keep you waiting for the next surprise. I recommend booking in advance, as this is a highly sought-after tour. You can sample traditional foods such as fry bread, craft beer, crispy cheese, Navajo tacos and more. There are usually options for specific diets, such as vegetarian dishes, but you should inform your service provider.

Details of interest

  • Price: from 65 euros per person.
  • Duration: between 2 and 3 hours.
  • Means of transport: you usually have to make your own way to the show, although you can also ask in advance if there is a transfer option included. From the city centre you can walk there in ten minutes, although considering the arid and sunny climate, it is preferable to take a taxi.
  • Advantages of this option: it usually includes a meal, which accompanies the native show.
  • Disadvantages of this option: tipping is usually not included. Tipping is not mandatory in the US, but it is frowned upon if you don't leave a tip for the waiters.

4. Go canyoneering in Zion National Park.

Canyoning in East Zion is the best way to challenge your body to new adventures. You can rappel down the slot canyon, as well as travel off-road through the local mountains. This location lies between Utah and Arizona, with beautiful rock formations that I suggest you explore in detail.

Specifically, the activity takes place in Zion National Park, one of the most sought-after canyoneering areas in the world. Keep in mind that canyoneering is an extreme attraction that combines rappelling, hiking and climbing. Of course, a certain level of physical ability is required. You can also walk along its unique red rocks, while safely strapped into a harness. If you don't want to get too far from the city, you can also enjoy canyoning in the Antelope Canyon.

Interesting details

  • Price: from 155 euros per person.
  • Duration: between 3 and 4 hours.
  • Means of transport: the best option is to book an excursion that includes transport, or in any case take a taxi. The National Park Express bus can get you there for around 95 euros, however the journey is longer this way.
  • Advantages of this option: You'll be able to climb to the top of this beautiful park for a completely different experience.
  • Disadvantages of this option: Tips are not usually included.

The best way to discover Arizona's culinary secrets is to take a culinary tour of Page. You should try some of the local dishes at restaurants in the area. For example, the iconic Big John's Texas BBQ, known for its delicious barbecue. Another great place to stop for lunch is Strombolli's, an Italian restaurant near Lake Powell.

Definitely a must-try in the area:

  • Fried bread: it is a traditional appetizer, which has been prepared in the region since 1864. Its history is very interesting, as it was the only food the Navajos had when they were displaced from New Mexico. It is a dough based on flour, water, salt and yeast, which is accompanied by beans, meat, cheese, among other local delicacies.
  • Chimichanga: a kind of fried burrito, which is served with cream or guacamole.
  • Queso crujiente: a kind of tortilla, which combines Italian, Mexican and North American food.

Details of interest

  • Price: from 10 euros per person. There are few options for guided tours, but there are few restaurants in Page so you can walk around on your own.
  • Duration: around 2 hours, or however long you wish to spend.
  • Means of transport: It is preferable to take a taxi, as public transport is not very good.
  • Advantages of this option: you will be able to test your palate, experimenting with typical dishes of the region.
  • Disadvantages of this option: Tips are not usually included.

Grand Canyon National Park is a magical location about an hour from Page. This tour is usually done aboard a river float, a kind of raft with a motor that glides through the vastness of the water. You can walk along the river and see the ancient petroglyphs, which are symbols carved into the rocks.

If you keep going, you can reach the Horseshoe Bend, one of the best things to do in Page. Additionally, this experience includes an adrenaline-filled rafting tour. A moderate level of fitness is required, as most of the activities are fast-paced and dynamic. If you are travelling alone, this is your chance to make friends, as it is usually designed for groups of around 22 people.

Details of interest

  • Price: from 80 euros per person. A fuel surcharge can be included, for around 10 euros.
  • Duration: around 12 hours.

  • Disadvantages of this option: if you plan to travel with children, be aware that it is not suitable for children under the age of four. It also generally does not include gratuities, which are left to the discretion of the individual.

Lake Powell is a river beauty, ideal for cooling off in the Arizona desert. It runs through most of the city and even extends into Utah. An interesting fact is that it's a man-made lake, created to supply the residents of the area. Here you can rent a kayak, enjoy a paddleboarding experience or dive into the crystal-clear waters.

Get away from the hectic routine to enjoy the calm of this lake surrounded by beautiful canyons. Without a doubt, this visit is one of the best things to do in Page. A guided tour is a great way to discover its history, as well as to find some off-the-beaten-path spots. Many people tend to camp, as the destination is ideal for a starry night.

Interesting details

  • Price: from 95 euros per person.
  • Duration: about 3 hours.

  • Advantages of this option: it is the best way to appreciate the lake calmly, besides, there are other activities offered in the surroundings such as boat rides, water-skiing, jet-skiing and more.
  • Disadvantages of this option: It is not recommended for people with serious health problems.

Page's desert trails lend themselves to a four-wheel drive, jeep or 4WD tour. This enriching experience is one of the best things to do in the city if you want to explore your surroundings from another angle. You'll enjoy panoramic views, plus you'll get a glimpse of nature's rock sculptures. Generally, a guide will accompany you to give you interesting facts about each location.

Be aware that you will be out in the sun, so be sure to bring hydration and refreshments. Some guided tours may offer snacks, soft drinks and even some food to make the walk more enjoyable. You're sure to have a great time as you take in the scenery of nature's art.

Page's beauty makes it a photo-worthy destination. Mostly, people are after the best angles of its canyons, lakes and mountains. In fact, if you want to visit Antelope Canyon, you should know that photo tours are offered with a Navajo guide who specialises in postcard sessions.

There are also night photography tours, which are a bit more expensive. Keep in mind that in high season it is difficult to find these tours, as the city is crowded. Therefore, the guides prefer not to offer them, so as not to saturate the most touristic enclaves. If you take the tour through the Curva de la Herradura, you are guaranteed to get some dream photographs.

Interesting details

  • Price: from 100 euros
  • Duration: at least 2 hours.
  • Means of transport: some may include transport, it is important to check at the time of booking.
  • Advantages of this option: you will be able to immortalise the memories, obtaining postcard photographs.
  • Disadvantages of this option: they are more expensive than a traditional tour, and more difficult to obtain.

Las Vegas is a destination known for its exciting entertainment offerings. Many people visit "Sin City" to enjoy the nightlife, spend the night exploring casinos and seal their vows of love with express weddings. Because of its proximity, it's wise to take advantage of a quick trip from Page, especially if you plan to stay for a couple of days.

Some of the best things to do in Las Vegas include:

  • Strip: better known as the party centre, this is a district with an impressive energy. It is home to the best casinos, hotels, theatres and nightclubs.
  • High Roller Ferris wheel: it is an emblem of the city, as it is one of the tallest in the world and offers breathtaking views.
  • Area 51: if you like mysteries, conspiracy theories and believe in extraterrestrial life, I invite you to slide down this road full of phenomena and secrets.

Interesting details

  • Price: from 90 euros per person.
  • Duration: there are guided tours that offer one-day trips, but I recommend you opt for options of at least two days, so you can discover the city's nocturnal panorama.
  • Means of transport: most experiences include transfers, or can add them for an extra cost. If you decide to go on your own, you can fly from 230 euros, although there is a cheaper option combining the National Park Express bus with the Las Vegas Monarail train.
  • Pros of this option: You'll get the chance to experience one of America's most interesting cities, with memories you'll keep for a lifetime.
  • Disadvantages of this option: It's a bit of a remote and time-consuming destination, so it doesn't fit into short itineraries.
